Job summary

WVU Medicine is seeking a patient care technician to assist with direct patient care under supervision. You will follow the established care plan and support admissions, transfers, discharges, and transportation of patients on the unit.

The role requires high school diploma, BLS certification within 30 days, and completion of a nurse assistant or patient care tech program, or current nursing student, or three years of patient care experience. This is an on-site opportunity at Weirton, WV.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire date.
• Graduate of a nurse assistant or patient care technician training program, OR completion of hospital-based Patient Care Technician program within 30 days of hire, OR current nursing student, OR three years of patient care tech experience.

Responsibilities

• Follows established plan of patient care.
• Assists with admission, transfer, discharge and transporting of patients.
• Implements patient safety measures and secures patients before transporting.
• Assists patients in moving, sitting and ambulating; raises side rails when indicated.
• Applies restraints under guidance of the nurse and follows fall protocols.
• Measures vital signs as instructed by the nurse and documents results.
• Collects and prepares specimens per policy; assists with basic care and treatments as instructed.
• Provides pre- and post-operative care and care for respite and hospice patients.
• Maintains cleanliness, stocks unit supplies, and communicates effectively with staff and patients.
