Job summary

Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a full-time Float Nutritionist to provide onsite coverage for the WIC program across the Northeast Health District. Job Responsibilities

The Northeast Health District WIC Program is seeking a dedicated Full‑Time Float Nutritionist to provide onsite clinic coverage for WIC programs throughout the Northeast Health District.

Under general supervision, this position plans and conducts nutrition services to promote family health and support healthy weight management. Responsibilities include providing nutrition education, nutritional assessments, breastfeeding education and counseling, and individualized nutrition services in accordance with the USDA Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program policies and procedures. The Float Nutritionist will travel throughout the district to provide coverage at multiple health department locations as needed.

Work Schedule: Full‑time (40 hours per week)

Travel: Frequent travel throughout the Northeast Health District is required to provide onsite clinic coverage.

• Conduct initial WIC nutrition assessments and develop individualized nutrition care plans using client‑centered goals.
• Monitor client progress and update nutrition care plans as appropriate.
• Provide medical nutrition therapy as prescribed through referrals.
• Provide individual and group nutrition education, including breastfeeding education and support.
• Conduct nutrition counseling for high‑risk WIC participants.
• Educate pregnant women, new mothers, and families on nutrition, breastfeeding, infant feeding, healthy lifestyles, and parenting‑related nutrition topics.
• Monitor the growth and development of infants and children and coordinate referrals to appropriate healthcare providers or specialists when indicated.
• Coordinate client services and referrals with healthcare providers, community agencies, and other Health Department programs.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.
• Develop, review, and/or approve nutrition education materials.
• Conduct community nutrition assessments and assist with identifying local nutrition needs.
• Maintain accurate client documentation in accordance with USDA WIC Program policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the WIC Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, human nutrition, foods and nutrition, nutrition education, food systems management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university; and verification statement of completion of a didactic program accredited by The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics. Copy of the Verification Statement and transcripts must be submitted with the application. The DPH Commissioner and agency leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well‑being.
