POSITION SUMMARY

The Float Medical Assistant is an integral part of Wheeler’s health delivery system, supporting primary care in an ambulatory setting with a focus on prevention and health maintenance. This role involves assisting patients by providing information, services, and support to clinical staff, maintaining a caring clinic environment, and performing functions according to established policies and procedures.

Eligible for a $100 scrubs/uniform allowance.

Hourly Rate: $21.50 with one year of experience; $23.00 with 2+ years of experience.

Bilingual Spanish-speaking stipend available: $2,288 annually.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a medical assistant program is preferred, or certification as a CNA, EMT, PCA, or PCT with at least 1 year of experience in the field.

LOCATION

This is a float position covering Hartford, New Britain, Waterbury, Plainville, and Bristol, CT.

SCHEDULE

Full-time, 40 hours per week, with no weekends or holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist patients by showing them to examination rooms and preparing them for providers.
  • Verify patient information, review medical history, medications, and screening tools; document in medical records.
  • Obtain vital signs, height, and weight, and record these in medical records.
  • Maintain organized systems for efficient patient flow.
  • Perform phlebotomy and prepare specimens for lab analysis.
  • Support clinical tasks under supervision of APRN, RN.
  • Provide patient instructions as directed by providers.
  • Ensure all reports, labs, and relevant information are available in medical records before appointments.
  • Follow up on and track referral statuses to ensure timely processing.
  • Manage supplies inventory, place orders, and verify receipt.
  • Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting, performing preventative maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Handle telephone messages and provide feedback or answers to patients and staff.
  • Maintain logs and checks, such as refrigerator temperatures and medication expiry dates.
  • Contribute to the practice's reputation by taking ownership of tasks and exploring value-added opportunities.
  • Must pass a respirator fit test at hire and annually.
  • Develop cultural competence by understanding the backgrounds and values of groups served, using appropriate methodologies and skills.
