Position Summary

The Float Medical Assistant (Float MA) is a highly skilled clinical professional responsible for providing exceptional patient care while supporting multiple clinic locations based on operational needs. This position requires flexibility, professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to seamlessly integrate into different provider teams with minimal direction.

Unlike traditional Medical Assistant roles assigned to a single provider or office, the Float MA serves as a clinical resource capable of maintaining workflow efficiency, supporting staffing shortages, assisting with new provider launches, cross-training team members, and ensuring operational continuity throughout the organization.

This position is ideal for an experienced Medical Assistant who enjoys variety, thrives in fast-paced environments, and takes pride in maintaining high clinical standards regardless of location.

Primary Responsibilities

Clinical Patient Care

  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs.
  • Record chief complaints, medication reconciliation, allergies, histories, and pharmacy verification.
  • Assist providers with examinations and in-office procedures.
  • Administer medications and injections within scope of practice.
  • Perform EKGs, spirometry, ABI testing, urine testing, rapid testing, and other ordered diagnostics.
  • Prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Assist with sterile procedures.
  • Remove sutures and staples as directed.
  • Perform point-of-care testing while maintaining quality control standards.
  • Prepare examination rooms between patients while maintaining infection prevention standards.

Provider Support

  • Anticipate provider needs throughout clinic.
  • Prepare charts prior to appointments.
  • Ensure all orders, referrals, imaging requests, and prescriptions are completed accurately.
  • Assist providers in closing encounters timely.
  • Prepare procedure rooms and equipment.
  • Assist with medication inventory management.

Float Responsibilities

The Float MA is expected to:

  • Travel between assigned clinic locations based on business needs.
  • Cover vacations, FMLA leaves, sick calls, and staffing shortages.
  • Assist with clinic openings and provider expansions.
  • Cross-train employees on workflows and clinical standards.
  • Assist leadership with special projects.
  • Maintain productivity regardless of location.
  • Adapt quickly to different providers' workflows while maintaining organizational standards.
  • Demonstrate professionalism when integrating into established teams.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Ensure exam rooms remain stocked and organized.
  • Maintain crash cart readiness.
  • Complete daily quality control logs.
  • Maintain vaccine storage logs when applicable.
  • Follow OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, infection control, and safety guidelines.
  • Document patient care accurately within the EMR.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain supply inventory and notify leadership of shortages.

The Float MA represents the organization at multiple locations and is expected to:

The Float MA position requires regular travel between clinic locations.

Assignments may change daily or weekly based on staffing needs.

Employees are expected to report directly to their assigned clinic each scheduled workday.

Clinic assignments may include any Wellspire Medical location.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
