Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced computerized tomography procedures.
  • Position patients on examining table and adjust devices.
  • Process CT digital images and ensure diagnostic quality.
  • Follow ALARA program and radiation protection techniques.
  • Processes CT images, checks quality, and creates 3D reconstructions when ordered.
  • Reviews prior studies with radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
  • Adheres to ALARA and radiation protection for patient and staff.
  • Stocks supplies, prints CDs, and performs QC as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Description

Summary:

This position is accountable for performing advanced computerized tomography procedures which produce high quality of diagnostic digital exams. Works on a level not requiring constant supervision while demonstrating advanced CT skills and following protocols established for a various age groups of patients. This position includes Float technologist and those who perform a variety of advanced technical CT procedures (biopsies, advanced level 3D reconstructions) that will require judgement and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure that is going to be performed, and records all reasons for the exam including all signs and symptoms.
  • Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation. Administers oral and or IV contrast when necessary or ordered.
  • Positions patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.
  • Moves CT equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
  • Processes radiologic CT digital images and examines for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability, and produce 3D reconstruction images when ordered.
  • Verify that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS. Make changes in billing codes/exam titles as needed.
  • Make sure to present any prior studies along with current studies to radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
  • Practices and is familiar with ALARA program and radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
  • Stock/Order supplies, prints CDs when requested, check machine for any problems, perform equipment QC as needed and any other duties that may be assigned to you daily.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications / Education / Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a 2-year radiologic technology program from an accredited school.
  • Current and valid Florida State License (CRT)
  • Current and valid Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry and CT (CT) registry
  • Basic Life Support BLS through the American Heart Association (CPR)
  • Knowledge & skill performing CT procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform CT testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of CT equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies including safety, privacy and HIPAA regulations
  • Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients and visitors.
  • Skill in positioning patients properly.
  • Skill in using computer network system competently to process patient and department information.
  • Skill in performing quality exams and exercising compassion with patients.
  • Skill in completing job functions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone to establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians and other staff.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co- workers, and management.
