Job description

Summary

This position is accountable for performing advanced computerized tomography procedures which produce high quality diagnostic digital exams. Works at a level not requiring constant supervision while demonstrating advanced CT skills and following protocols established for various age groups of patients. The role includes float technologist responsibilities and performed advanced technical CT procedures such as biopsies and advanced level 3D reconstructions that require judgment and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure that is to be performed and records all reasons for the exam, including all signs and symptoms.
  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation, administering oral or IV contrast when necessary or ordered.
  • Positions patient on the examination table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of the specified area of the body requested by the physician.
  • Moves CT equipment into the specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
  • Processes radiologic CT digital images, examines them for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability, and produces 3D reconstruction images when ordered.
  • Verifies that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS and makes changes in billing codes or exam titles as needed.
  • Ensures any prior studies are presented along with current studies to the radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
  • Practices and is familiar with the ALARA program and radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
  • Stocks/Orders supplies, prints CDs when requested, checks the machine for any problems, performs equipment QC as needed, and carries out any other duties that may be assigned daily.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a 2‑year radiologic technology program from an accredited school.
  • Current and valid Florida State License (CRT).
  • Current and valid Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry and CT (CT) registry.
  • Basic Life Support BLS through the American Heart Association (CPR).
  • Knowledge and skill in performing CT procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform CT testing, including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of CT equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies, including safety, privacy, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Skill in positioning patients properly.
  • Skill in using computer network systems competently to process patient and department information.
  • Skill in performing quality exams and exercising compassion with patients.
  • Skill in completing job functions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and other staff.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co‑workers, and management.
