UPMC in the Harrisburg region seeks a Registered Dietitian to deliver nutrition care across Harrisburg Hospital, West Shore Hospital, and Community Osteopathic Hospital with coverage across seven facilities as needed.

Responsibilities include nutrition diagnosis, order writing, patient education, and mentoring students. Licensure as a Registered Dietitian is required, with residency/experience aligned to the career ladder level at offer.

This role is primarily based at Harrisburg Hospital, West Shore Hospital, and Community Osteopathic Hospital, with coverage across all seven hospitals in the region as needed. Remote work may be available for sites farther from the candidate’s home. Travel beyond standard mileage to Harrisburg Hospital will be reimbursed. This is a float position, so candidates should be comfortable working across multiple facilities without a single “home” unit or location. Work hours are from 730am to 4pm, with weekend and Holiday rotation.

To provide a high level of nutrition-related expertise in the interdisciplinary team management of all hospitalized patients.

Responsibilities

• Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.
• Appropriate execution of order writing as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
• Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.
• Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Mentor and train dietetic students, interns and support personnel and provide feedback for student and program improvement.
• Provide timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.
• Provide quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.
• Lead one department initiative annually with the ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice.
• Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units & participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
• As required, demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations and other communications
• Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder that reflects level of education, experience and manager discretion at time of offer.
• Bachelor's degree in nutrition and Dietetics degree with Registered Dietitian certification obtained before January 1, 2026, with 2 years clinical nutrition experience required.
• OR master's degree in nutrition and Dietetics with Registered Dietitian certification obtained on or after January 1, 2026, with 1 year of clinical nutrition experience required.
