Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Flight Test Technician 2/3 in Emerado, North Dakota. You will perform developmental, experimental and production aircraft maintenance, repair, modification and testing from blueprints and manuals.

Role requires reading schematics, wiring and structural knowledge, plus ability to work outdoors and travel up to 10% for training. A high school diploma and relevant experience are required; an active DoD Secret clearance is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with relevant technician experience.
  • Level 2 requires 2 years of related experience; Level 3 requires 4 years or an associate degree with 2 years.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and repair manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing, rework and repair across aircraft subsystems.
  • Work from blueprints, schematics, and engineering orders to guide tasks.
  • Maintain and test electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and instrumentation systems.
  • Drill, fit, assemble, rivet, splice and insulate as required.
  • Notify supervision of malfunctions and ensure quality control.
  • Travel up to 10% for training or job-related activities.

Flight Test Technician 2/3

Location: Emerado, North Dakota.

Please note: A start date, for candidates selected, will be determined after program funding is secured.

In this role you will be Performing developmental, experimental and production aircraft maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and testing tasks in a field of specialization; electrical / electronic, mechanical or instrumentation. The selected candidate will work from blueprints, engineering orders, schematics, repair manuals and other technical documents on aircraft electrical / electronic, mechanical, plumbing, and hydraulics, power plant, structures, or instrumentation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs testing, rework and repair in various fields of specialization.
  • Applies shop theory and skills in accomplishing assigned tasks working from incomplete engineering, electronic data, blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, technical orders and written and verbal instructions.
  • Works from blueprints, engineering orders, schematics, repair manuals and other technical documents on aircraft electrical / electronic, mechanical, plumbing, and hydraulics, power plant, structures or instrumentation systems.
  • Performs drilling, reaming, fitting, assembly, trimming, riveting, splicing, insulating and other associated duties as assigned.
  • Performs electrical, mechanical or instrumentation maintenance, repair and testing in support of specific flight test projects.
  • Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains various types of complex aircraft equipment, components, devices or systems.
  • Performs modifications and adjustments as necessary.
  • Notifies lead personnel or supervision of any / all malfunctions, defects and damages of equipment, material and product.
  • Checks work for completeness and accuracy.
  • Performs Production Accountability duties associated with the processing, verification, quality auditing and inspection of assemblies, parts and tooling for which the individual has been delegated production accountability.
  • May be required to work in other fields incidental to, and in connection with completion of assignment.
  • Required ability to be certified for a half & full face respirator.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned. May travel for training or other job-related activities.
  • Other duties as assigned may include assisting with ground support equipment, facilities or aircraft ground operations, or other hangar ground operations support roles.
  • Adhere to all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety guidelines and regulations
  • Work and communicate over ambient noise
  • Work in a variety of work spaces/positions. Work spaces may include but are not limited to small, enclosed spaces, awkward, and elevated spaces. Positions may include bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, ascending/descending ladders, and/or working overhead.

This role will be filled at either a Flight Test Technician 2 or 3 based on the relevant experience required for each role

Basic Qualifications Level 2
  • Must have a High School degree or equivalent, and 2 years of relevant experience as a flight test technician, field technician, or relevant related technician experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to perform moderately to strenuous physical and repetitious work to include bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to work in an outside environment at various times of year.
  • The ability to pass Medical/Respiratory Exam
  • Must be able to travel approximately 10% of the time.
Basic Qualifications Level 3
  • Must have a High School degree or equivalent, and 4 years of relevant experience as a flight test technician, field technician, or relevant related technician experience Or Relevant Associate's degree and 2 years of related flight test technician, field technician, or relevant related technician experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to perform moderately to strenuous physical and repetitious work to include bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to work in an outside environment at various times of year.
  • The ability to pass Medical/Respiratory Exam
  • Must be able to travel approximately 10% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting aircraft ground operations, maintenance and/or modifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Aircraft structures and electrical components/wiring
  • AA degree or other two-year technical degree or Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license
  • Prior RQ-4 or MQ-4 experience
  • Prior aircraft maintenance military experience

  • Primary Level Salary Range: $48,400.00 - $80,600.00
  • Secondary Level Salary Range: $57,500.00 - $95,900.00
  • The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
  • Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
  • Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
