Job summary

Joby Aviation is seeking a Flight Test Mechanic to join our Concord, CA maintenance team. The role covers airframe, powerplant, and high voltage systems with emphasis on electro-mechanical devices and composite airframes.

The ideal candidate has an FAA A&P certificate, a HS diploma, and 5+ years of hands-on mechanical/electrical experience, plus the ability to read engineering drawings and communicate effectively. Expect extended hours, potential travel, and a competitive compensation package.

Qualifications

  • FAA A&P certificate and HS diploma are required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of mechanical, electrical and sheet metal experience.
  • Ability to work with electro-mechanical devices and high voltage systems; training provided.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Strong basic computer and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance per procedures and manuals.
  • Inspect aircraft according to company procedures and manuals.
  • Remove and replace airframe, powerplant, and electrical components.
  • Document work following FAA and company procedures.
  • Support launch and recovery, pre- and post-flight activities.
  • Participate in Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP).
  • Operate and maintain ground support equipment.
  • Assist in developing maintenance manuals and documentation.
  • Comply with laws, regulations and safety practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking passionate and driven individuals to join our flight maintenance team. This role requires a wide range of knowledge and skills that include the basics of airframe and powerplant maintenance on composite airframes to advanced electro-mechanical devices and high-voltage electrical systems. Integrity, the desire to learn, and a can-do attitude are a must for this fast-paced environment. The location of this role is in Concord, CA

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance per company procedures and maintenance manuals
  • Perform aircraft inspections per company procedures and maintenance manuals
  • Remove and replace airframe, powerplant, and electrical components per company procedures and maintenance manuals
  • Complete required documentation in accordance with established company and FAA procedures
  • Perform launch and recovery of aircraft including ground operations and observer responsibilities, as well as pre- and post-flight activities
  • Participate in Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) in accordance with company guidelines
  • Maintain and operate ground support equipment
  • Help continually develop maintenance manuals and supporting documentation necessary to operate and maintain our vehicles
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices
  • Other duties as assigned or required
Required
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five or more years of mechanical, electrical, and sheet metal experience
  • Must be able to work with electro-mechanical devices, high voltage power systems, and electronics equipment. Relevant training will be provided
  • Must be able to interpret engineering drawings and technical documents
  • Must possess general working knowledge of hand tools and precision measuring equipment
  • Basic computer and interpersonal skills are required to effectively communicate with coworkers
  • Must be able to work both independently and on a team and be able to work extended hours and travel as required
  • Read and speak English proficiently
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum 50 pounds

This position must meet US export control compliance requirements, therefore a candidate must qualify as a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15. “US Person” includes US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees

Desired
  • Cessna 208 mechanic experience
  • Experience working on experimental and/or prototype vehicles
  • FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) certificate
  • Part 135 maintenance experience
  • Composite fabrication and repair experience
Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $47- $65/hr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
