Job summary

CAE is seeking a Software Support Engineering Specialist I to support design, modification, integration, and qualification of software and hardware systems used in flight training devices and simulation environments. You will work independently under established engineering standards to analyze requirements, estimate workload, and perform design, testing, and integration activities for simulator projects.

This entry-level role emphasizes collaboration, documentation, and regulatory compliance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace, or related technical discipline or two-year technical degree with equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years coordinating projects and managing technical work activities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of UNIX, Linux, and/or Windows operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of FORTRAN, C/C++, and/or Assembly.
  • Ability to perform software and hardware technical activities with minimal supervision.
  • Effective written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Customer-focused approach and ability to collaborate across functional teams.
  • Ability to travel occasionally (less than 10%).

Responsibilities

  • Perform software and hardware design activities using established engineering standards to support flight training device modification requirements.
  • Install, verify, test, integrate, and document new or modified software and hardware designs.
  • Assess modification requirements to improve training realism and correct discrepancies.
  • Convert technical requirements into workload estimates and project scope analyses.
  • Design, implement, test, and integrate for assigned simulator projects.
  • Support troubleshooting of complex simulator issues.
  • Develop and document maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Coordinate updates related to navigational and FMS components.
  • Coordinate qualification activities and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Manage device evaluation and discrepancy reports per regulatory standards.
  • Prepare documentation for regulatory evaluations and modifications.
  • Track and verify resolution of issues during evaluations.
  • Maintain MQTGs and conduct QTG test runs.
  • Coordinate moderately sized technical projects.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members.
