Job description

Flight Safety Specialist, Prime Air Safety

Job ID: 10588625 | Amazon.com Services LLC

Prime Air is seeking a motivated and experienced Flight Safety Specialist to join our Flight Safety team in Seattle. This program-level role supports the Safety Management System (SMS), including safety reporting management, safety data analysis, hazard identification, safety risk management, safety investigation support, and safety assurance activities across Prime Air’s drone delivery operations as we scale into new US and international markets. You will be embedded in the rhythm of daily operations, working alongside flight operations, ground crews, site leadership, safety leadership, regulatory and engineering teams to ensure safety is proactive, data-driven, and integrated into every phase of operation. The ideal candidate is a quick learner who can dive deep into safety event data, operational risk, or investigation findings one moment and pivot to safety promotion or risk assessment support in a different domain the next, without losing momentum.

Key job responsibilities
  • Support the Flight Safety team in executing Safety Management System (SMS) processes, including safety reporting, hazard identification, safety risk assessments (SRAs), and safety assurance activities across Prime Air’s drone delivery operations.
  • Analyze flight safety data, SMS reports, and operational metrics using the FlySMS platform to identify trends, recurring hazards, and emerging risks that inform safety decision-making.
  • Support safety investigations of operational events, incidents, and hazards, including evidence gathering, root cause analysis (e.g., HFACS, 5-Whys, Fishbone), and documentation of findings and corrective actions.
  • Manage the day-to-day intake, triage, and lifecycle of safety reports in FlySMS, including severity classification, primary cause assignment, assignment to analysts, and tracking reports through to closure.
  • Support Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs) tied to operational changes, new site launches, new operational procedures and Management of Change (MoC) process.
  • Execute safety promotion activities, including safety bulletins, campaign materials and reporting culture initiatives to build and sustain a positive safety culture across operational sites.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional team members across Flight Operations, Engineering, Quality, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, and Compliance to support safety integration into daily business processes.
  • Prepare safety data summaries, Weekly Business Review (WBR) inputs, Safety Review Board (SRB) materials, and monthly SMS status reports to support safety leadership decision-making.
  • Support the development and maintenance of SMS documentation, including safety policies, procedures, hazard registers, and risk acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate with the Safety and Compliance Officer (SCO) network at operational sites to ensure consistent application of SMS processes and timely reporting of safety events.
  • Innovate safety engagement programs and contribute to a just, learning-oriented safety culture across Prime Air.
