The Flight Pressure Systems Engineer will support the JETS II contract in Houston, TX.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate pressure system and pressure vessel designs against design requirements and report assessments to JSC Flight pressure systems and ISS Structures and Mechanisms.
- Review pressure systems related hazards (e.g., system leakage, rupture, explosion, fire) and controls to prevent such hazards.
- Provide weekly status updates on top pressure system risk items and certification risk items to the pressure system working group.
- Consult with project teams and flight pressure systems to identify, resolve, and mitigate issues via design changes, waivers, and NCRs.
- Provide detailed engineering analysis and technical consultation for development, design, testing, and evaluation of spacecraft pressure vessels and pressurized systems supporting flight programs, projects, and ground systems.
- Offer technical guidance, oversight, and resolution of technical issues related to pressure vessels and pressurized systems to JSC projects and programs.
- Evaluate the structural integrity and operational capability of spacecraft pressure vessels, including COPVs, and pressurized systems.
- Define and implement fracture control requirements for spacecraft pressure vessels and pressurized systems.
- Serve as a JSC consultant for flight pressure systems testing in ground systems at JSC.
- Collaborate with Materials & Processes on durability, fatigue, fracture, and failure analysis of pressure vessels and pressurized systems.
- Compile comments and represent JSC pressure systems engineering at safety reviews and system engineering reviews.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED:

- US Citizenship or Permanent residency is required due to the sensitivity of customer-related information.
- Experience in space industry or DoD work is necessary.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
- Minimum of 2+ years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to critically assess manufacturing/material processes and designs, and work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with technical and managerial personnel.
- Experience in spacecraft pressure vessel development, qualification, and certification.
- Knowledge of standards like ANSI/AIAA S-080, S-081, ASME BPVC, DOT CFR 49, and ISO certified pressure vessels.
- Experience evaluating fracture-critical materials and hardware, including testing and qualification for manned spacecraft.
- Experience in durability, fatigue, fracture, and failure analysis of pressure vessels and systems.
- Proficiency with metallurgical, analytical, NDE, and failure analysis techniques.
- Strong problem-solving and multitasking skills.
- Familiarity with MS Office and MS Teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% annually.
DESIRED:
- Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Materials, Aerospace Engineering, or Materials Science, with at least two years of pressure vessel/system experience.
WORK LOCATION:
- Onsite position.
- 9/80 schedule, every other Friday off.
- Some travel may be required.
