Job description

Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Base Medical Supervisor or the Manager of Business Operations, this position is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive care to critically ill and/or injured patients of all ages in the pre‑hospital setting and during inter‑facility transports by rotor‑wing, fixed‑wing, or ground vehicles. The role requires applying specialized flight nursing principles, emergency procedures, and diagnostics.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of specialized functions and complex assessments, diagnoses, therapies, and emergency treatments of patients during transport.
  • Document accurate information for assessment, treatment, and stabilization during transport.
  • Record complete and correct billing information for patient transports.
  • Maintain and facilitate effective, timely communication between management, internal and external customers.
  • Participate in activities to support public relations and marketing efforts.
  • Maintain knowledge of flight nursing practice through mandatory meetings, chart reviews, equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions related to critical care transport.
  • Complete all annual recurrent competency requirements.
  • Maintain an active RN license and all certifications required by policy.
  • Clinically function under the direction of the program's Medical Director through medical protocols, procedures, and online medical guidance.
  • Report directly to the program's Manager of Clinical Services for clinical matters, and indirectly to the National Director of Clinical Standards.
Qualifications
  • Active RN license in the state of employment.
  • Minimum of three years of current critical care or emergency experience (five years preferred).
  • At least one year of prior flight experience.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNATC, TNCC, ITLS, or PHTLS certification; NRP preferred.
  • Instructor certifications preferred.
  • CFRN certification obtained within twenty‑four months of hire.
  • Flight or transport experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of the PHI Air Medical Group orientation program.
  • Effective human‑relations skills for interface with all levels of personnel and external customers.
  • Compliance with the clinical personnel weight restriction limit for flight per policy.
  • Basic computer skills for e‑mail and electronic charting.
  • Body weight below 235 pounds.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑placement physical exam, including a functional capacity test (strength and flexibility assessment, ability to lift up to 100 pounds) and drug screening.
