Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Flight Nurse to deliver high‑quality critical care during patient transports by helicopter. You will collaborate with the Flight Paramedic to manage meds and life support in confined spaces, meeting stringent safety and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

  • RN licensure in state of practice and compact for other states.
  • Three years ER or Critical Care experience.
  • CFRN or critical care nursing certifications strongly encouraged/required within defined period.
  • Ability to work in high-stress helicopter transport environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality critical care during patient transport by helicopter.
  • Assess, triage, and treat critically ill or injured patients en route to higher care.
  • Collaborate with Flight Paramedic and medical team to administer meds and life support.

Education:

Accredited school of nursing completion.

Licensure:

Current RN Licensure in state of practice and compact for other states. Base may determine at discretion.

EMT required in Arkansas. state EMT is required at Life Line state-licensed bases before completing Life Line orientation. Base may determine at discretion.

Experience:

Three years ER or Critical Care experience.

Certifications:

certified emergency nurse (CEN), critical care registered nurse (CCRN) highly encouraged, certified flight registered nurse (CFRN) is required within two years of hire.

Must have or be able to complete within first six months of service, PALS, NRP, ITLS or PHTLS (taken one time), Hazmat, and extrication class. (Taken one time).

Current after 6 months: BLS, ACLS, NRP, PALS, ATLS or equivalent Life Line Trauma Course

Other: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Must be able to use a Cardiac Monitor, Non-Invasive and invasive BP Monitor, Mechanical Ventilator, C02 monitor, IABP, Impella, Intubation, Infusion Pump, and computer.
Preferred Education:

Bachelor's of Nursing.

Preferred Experience:

Previous flight nurse experience preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Must pass an annual fitness test completed as part of fit-4-duty program.
  • As of 7/1/2017, the new weight requirement will be 230 pounds or less in full uniform (flight suit and boots).
  • Tolerates the stressors of flight, including but not limited to, motion, vibration, and temperature variations and other environmental conditions. Perform prehospital duties in many different environments.
  • Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
