Job Description

We are searching for a Transport Flight Nurse — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you'll provide quality nursing care, treatment, and stabilization of critically ill patients during transport. The Transport RN will oversee all aspects of patient care during transport. As the code responder/rapid response nurse, the RN will work in collaboration with medical control and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to assess, treat, and stabilize the patient, family, or visitor until the patient is moved to a higher level of care if indicated.

Qualifications
  • Required Bachelor's Degree in nursing or associate degree in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement, or an associate degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for RN licensure, or a Technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement, or currently enrolled in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN. Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications (ALL):
    • RN - Registered Nurse license by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact
    • BLS - Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association
    • PASSPORT - US Passport/International Document by the US Department of State or other appropriate documentation allowing international travel (Required within 4 months of hire)
    • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support by the American Heart Association (Required within 4 months of hire)
    • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association (Required within 4 months of hire)
    • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support by the American Heart Association (Required within 6 months of hire)
    • CNPT - Neonatal Pediatric Transport by the National Certification Corporation (Required within 18 months of hire)
    • CCRN - Critical Care Registered Nurse by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (Required within 18 months of hire)
  • Required 3 years of critical care experience in a pediatric or neonatal intensive care setting OR 3 years Pediatric Emergency Center experience in a Level 1 trauma center with CPEN certification.
Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for critically ill patients including neonates, pediatric, and adult patients. Demonstrate critical thinking, autonomous evaluation, therapeutic and emergency interventions, and preparation for transport. Detect changes in patient status proactively. Collaborate with healthcare team to maximize outcomes. Maintain compliance with Texas policies, protocols, and scope of practice. Perform advanced skills and procedures. Keep accurate records.
  • Provide compassionate care and keep families informed. Serve as a patient/family advocate and maintain confidentiality.
  • Engage in program development and quality initiatives. Communicate effectively, foster positive relationships, problem-solve, and handle conflicts professionally. Communicate with medical control, participate in outreach and marketing, and contribute to research activities.
  • Ensure smooth operations: equipment checks, inventory management, and timely completion of missions. Adhere to safety procedures. Participate in debriefings and emergency events.
  • Maintain professional development and clinical competence across all transport services, including ventilator management, ECMO, and trauma skills. Use systems like Epic, Teletracking, and EMS charts effectively. Participate in education and quality programs. Support patients and families in understanding care plans. Act as a resource for the healthcare team.
