Job summary

RTX in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking an early-career Software Engineer to contribute to real-time embedded flight control software for next-generation aerospace platforms. You will work on requirements, hand-code algorithms, and integrate MATLAB/Simulink generated code, with awareness of DO-178B/C certification activities.

Ideal candidates have a STEM degree and experience in C/C++, OO design, and embedded systems, plus collaborative, agile teamwork in a high-safety environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Experience developing in modern programming languages (e.g. C++; C).
  • Experience with object oriented design.

Responsibilities

  • Define and review software requirements, including interfaces.

What You Will Do:

Collins Aerospace’s Flight Controls products have been flying and landing airplanes for over 30 years. Our customer base is a who’s who of aircraft manufacturers and they demand systems which satisfy the highest levels of criticality at the lowest cost possible. This dichotomy provides a continuous challenge to our engineering team to employ new technology and methods in developing our complex systems. We are looking for an early career Software Engineer to join our team in Cedar Rapids, IA and contribute to the development of flight control products for the next generation of business, regional, military, and air‑transport fixed and rotary wing platforms. Typical FCS functions include, but aren’t limited to flight guidance, autothrottle, autopilot, maintenance, and autoland systems. This position represents a great opportunity to apply your software engineering skills to real‑time embedded systems with critical safety requirements.

U.S Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refuge, or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Software Development Tasks:
  • Defining and reviewing software requirements, including interface requirements
  • Implementing control and signal processing algorithms via hand‑code and integration of auto‑generated code from MATLAB Simulink / Stateflow models into application software
  • Conducting requirements‑based testing of software
  • Supporting DO‑178B/C compliant software certification activities
  • Prior experience with object‑oriented development and embedded software development is desired, as well as familiarity with software requirement and configuration management tools
Qualifications

  • Good working knowledge of data structures and how to efficiently use them to solve problems

  • Experience communicating technical information to management, customers, and engineering team members

Relocation Eligible

Salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
