Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a spacecraft autonomy and controls engineer to derive autonomy requirements, build control models in Simulink, and validate subsystem performance.

The role emphasizes collaboration across GN&C and other subsystems, using MATLAB/Simulink for analysis and verification.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
  • Applied industry experience and/or M.S. or Ph.D. focused on development of spacecraft autonomy and controls.
  • Proven experience in modeling and simulation autonomy and controls operations.
  • Familiarity with flight management, guidance, control, navigation, and astrodynamics fundamentals.
  • Experience in MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Derive and develop autonomy requirements, perform analyses and trades to validate requirements, and maintain subsystem specification.
  • Collaborate with GN&C and other subsystems and spacecraft systems engineers to support the development of plant models.
  • Build control code in Simulink to support autocoding to target.
  • Support the development, and execution of simulations and tools required for verification of functionalities.
  • Use MATLAB and Simulink to analyze, unit test, and verify control and autonomy algorithms.
  • Support verification and testing, ensuring the subsystem complies to its requirements.

As part of a hardworking team of spacecraft development engineers, you develop and deliver on-board autonomy algorithms, control algorithms, and flight software. You will be responsible for the derivation and development of autonomy requirements, analysis, algorithms, flight software, integration, test, verification, and validation. In this role, you will use your experience in the implementation of on-board autonomy and mechanical, thermal, fluid, and gaseous control systems. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a B.S. in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering
  • Applied industry experience and/or M.S. or Ph.D. focused on development of spacecraft autonomy and controls
  • Proven experience in modeling and simulation autonomy and controls operations
  • Familiarity with flight management, guidance, control, navigation, and astrodynamics fundamentals
  • Experience in MATLAB and Simulink
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. or PhD in aerospace engineering or related technical field
  • Experience in development and implementation of real-time embedded control solutions
  • Experience in full lifecycle development of GN&C and/or Autonomy on spacecraft
  • Experience developing embedded control systems for complex aerospace systems
  • Experience designing, evaluating, and simulating state machines
  • Experience in Stateflow
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Familiarity with DO-178, DO-160, and DO-254 or similar guidelines
Base Pay Range
  • Base Pay Range for CA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70
  • Base Pay Range for CO applicants is $119,814.00 - $167,738.55
  • Base Pay Range for WA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70Other site ranges may differ
