Blue Origin in the Greater Seattle Area is seeking a Flight Autonomy Engineer III to develop and deliver on-board autonomy algorithms, control algorithms, and flight software for lunar systems.

You will derive autonomy requirements, build models, and collaborate across subsystems, applying MATLAB/Simulink and state machines to verify functionalities and ensure safe mission operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in aerospace engineering or related field preferred.
  • Experience modeling/autonomy and controls for spacecraft recommended.
  • Familiarity with GN&C fundamentals and flight dynamics.

Responsibilities

  • Derive and develop autonomy requirements; validate via analyses and metrics.
  • Collaborate with GN&C and subsystems to develop plant models.
  • Build control code in Simulink to support autocoding to target.
  • Develop simulations and tools for verification of functionalities.
  • Use MATLAB/Simulink to analyze, test, and verify control/autonomy algorithms.
  • Support verification and testing to ensure compliance with requirements.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.As part of a hardworking team of spacecraft development engineers, you develop and deliver on-board autonomy algorithms, control algorithms, and flight software. You will be responsible for the derivation and development of autonomy requirements, analysis, algorithms, flight software, integration, test, verification, and validation. In this role, you will use your experience in the implementation of on-board autonomy and mechanical, thermal, fluid, and gaseous control systems. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required! **Responsibilities include but are not limited to:*** Derive and develop autonomy requirements, perform analyses and trades to validate requirements, and maintain subsystem specification, and performance metrics.* Collaborate with GN&C and other subsystems and spacecraft systems engineers to support the development of low- and high-fidelity plant models.* Build control code in Simulink to support autocoding to target.* Support the development, and execution of simulations and tools required for verification of functionalities.* Use MATLAB and Simulink to analyze, unit test, and verify control and autonomy algorithms.* Support verification and testing, ensuring the subsystem complies to its requirements. **Minimum Qualifications:*** Minimum of a B.S. in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering* Applied industry experience and/or M.S. or Ph.D. focused on development of spacecraft autonomy and controls* Proven experience in modeling and simulation autonomy and controls operations* Familiarity with flight management, guidance, control, navigation, and astrodynamics fundamentals* Experience in MATLAB and Simulink* Excellent written and verbal communication skills* Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum **Preferred Qualifications:*** M.S. or PhD in aerospace engineering or related technical field* Experience in development and implementation of real-time embedded control solutions* Experience in full lifecycle development of GN&C and/or Autonomy on spacecraft* Experience developing embedded control systems for complex aerospace systems* Experience designing, evaluating, and simulating state machines* Experience in Stateflow* Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA* Familiarity with DO-178, DO-160, and DO-254 or similar guidelines### Base Pay Range for:CA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70CO applicants is $119,814.00 - $167,738.55WA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70**Other site ranges may differ** **Culture Statement**Don’t meet all desired requirements?
