Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking a part-time School Bus Driver to join the Operations team. The role covers absence coverage and athletic trips, with a 1st shift and temporary assignment; wage is $22.74 per hour. A valid Class B CDL with required endorsements is required.

You'll transport students safely, conduct pre/post-trip checks, and maintain a positive classroom-like environment on the bus; experience and a strong focus on safety are essential.

Qualifications

• Valid Class B CDL with Air Brake, Passenger, and S Endorsements.
• CHRC background check through Maine Department of Education (fee $70).
• Clean driving record with limited violations in 24 months.
• Two to four years driving experience; prior school bus driving preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to pass physicals and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Strong communication and ability to maintain discipline.
• First Aid and CPR certifications desirable.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport children to and from school on assigned routes.
• Transport students on field trips and athletic events.
• Safely assist students with wheelchairs and medical equipment as needed.
• Perform pre- and post-trip safety inspections and report issues.
• Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful environment on the bus.
