Job summary

Portland Public Schools Transportation is seeking a Substitute Bus Driver (Float) in Portland, Maine. This role covers absences for regular drivers and may include athletic trips, with a flexible, part-time schedule and year-round hours.

The position offers overtime opportunities and a steady, community-focused role serving Portland's students. Eligible candidates will hold a Class B CDL with required endorsements, pass background checks, and meet physical requirements.

Qualifications

• Requires Class B CDL with Air Brake, Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
• Background check (CHRC) through Maine DOE.
• Clean driving record with limited violations in past 24 months.
• Two to four years driving experience; prior school bus driving preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport students to and from school on assigned routes.
• Transport students on field trips, athletics and other events.
• Assist students with accessibility needs and safety equipment as needed.
• Perform pre- and post-trip safety inspections and report any issues.
• Maintain a positive, safe atmosphere aboard the bus.
