Job summary

Gilbert Community School District is seeking caring and dependable Registered Nurses to provide substitute coverage when a school nurse is unavailable. This is a flexible opportunity to support students, respond to routine health needs, and help maintain a safe and welcoming school environment.

Substitute nurses follow established health plans and district procedures while coordinating with the district's RN team for guidance and support as needed.

Qualifications

• Current State of Iowa Registered Nurse license.
• Current Basic Life Support or CPR certification.
• Clinical, hospital, pediatric, or school nursing experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively and respond calmly to student health needs.
• Commitment to confidentiality and student well being.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine care for students who become ill or injured during the school day
• Administer medications and treatments according to established orders and district procedures
• Follow existing Individual Health Plans, 504 Plans, emergency action plans, and physician orders
• Support students with chronic health needs using established care procedures
• Respond to urgent health situations and contact the appropriate district nurse, parent, administrator, or emergency service when needed
• Communicate with families and school staff as appropriate
• Document health office visits, medications, treatments, and related communication
• Provide support and direction to health associates when needed
• Maintain an organized and welcoming health office
• Follow district policies and applicable nursing requirements
