Job summary

Summit Spine & Joint Centers (SSJC) is seeking a PRN Surgical First Assistant to support multiple ASC locations across Georgia. The role involves assisting surgeons in the operating room, ensuring patient safety, and contributing to efficient surgical operations in a fast-paced setting.

The ideal candidate has 1 year of Surgical First Assistant experience and may hold an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, with graduation from an accredited Surgical First Assistant program

Qualifications

Minimum 1 year of Surgical First Assistant experience preferred.
Associate or Bachelor's degree in a health-related field preferred.
Graduate of an accredited Surgical First Assistant program preferred; experience with orthopedic/spine procedures preferred.

Responsibilities

Communicate surgeon preferences and patient needs to the surgical team.
Position patients for optimal exposure following safety protocols.
Provide intraoperative assistance including visualization, tissue handling, and closure.
Demonstrate proper use of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
Perform surgical skills: clamping, cauterizing, suturing, suctioning, retracting, cutting, injecting, ligating.
Apply wound closure techniques per surgeon preference.
Assist with post-procedure patient care and safe transfers.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, nurses, and clinical teams.
Maintain compliance with policies, procedures, and safety standards.
