Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited physical therapy assistant program with an associate’s degree.
• Current CPR certification is required.
• Must be a licensed driver with an automobile in good working condition.
• 1 year PTA experience preferred, in-home or community health setting.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.
• Ability to ambulate in patients' homes and navigate stairs.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct physical therapy treatments according to directions of the physical therapist and in accordance with the physician's plan of care.
• Treats patients to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance.
• Directs and aids patients in therapeutic exercises, gait and functional training, transfers, and prosthetic training.
• Utilizes physical agents (heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound, massage).
• Observes and reports patient responses and changes to the physical therapist and staff.
• Instructs patients in use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic/orthotic devices.
• Maintains records and clinical notes within required timeframes.
