Job summary

The Town of Hanover is seeking a Youth Services Library Assistant to support children, families, and lifelong learning at the Hanover Public Library.

Work includes preparing children's programs, staffing the children's room, assisting library patrons, and engaging with the community through storytelling, reader advisory, and outreach. 20 hours per week, some evenings and weekends, non-benefited position.

Qualifications

• Specialized training or education related to library services, youth services, or a related field, in addition to a high school education
• One to two years of relevant work experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Ability to prepare and conduct children's programs, provide reader advisory, and deliver excellent customer service

Responsibilities

• Prepare and conduct children's programs, including story times and summer activities
• Recommend books and materials to patrons of all ages
• Assist patrons in locating and selecting materials
• Support publicity and outreach efforts
• Create displays and maintain a welcoming library environment
• Assist at circulation desk with check-in/out and issuing library cards
• Attend meetings as required
• Read professional reviews and suggest materials for possible purchases
