Teacher Tutors, LLC. is seeking part-time Reading Specialists to support students building foundational reading skills. Sessions occur in homes, at the library, at our Livingston, NJ office, or online, with a preference for in-person tutoring.

Travel radius matching is used to assign clients within your chosen area. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s in education or related field and have evidence-based reading instruction experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or literacy fields required or equivalent.
• Master's or PhD candidates welcome, subject to qualifications.
• Experience in structured reading instruction and evidence-based practice.
• Tutoring or teaching experience with the relevant grade levels.
• Knowledge of New Jersey ELA standards and common reading challenges.
• Strong communication and patience to support struggling readers.
• Ability to adapt plans when a lesson doesn’t land with a student.
• Availability for afternoons, evenings, or weekends; reliable transport.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-on-one reading and literacy sessions tailored to each student.
• Assess decoding, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary; build an individualized plan.
• Plan lessons and prepare phonics, decodable texts, fluency drills, and writing practice.
• Develop fluency across phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Track progress and adjust pacing, materials, and difficulty as needed.
• Submit a short session note after each tutoring session and flag concerns early.
• Communicate clearly and warmly with parents.
• Share effective practices with the team to raise overall tutoring quality.
