Job summary

Durham Academy is seeking on-call School Bus Drivers to provide flexible, as-needed coverage for daily routes, athletic events, field trips and special activities across Pre-K–12. Responsibilities include safe student transport, pre/post-trip inspections, and maintaining order according to school policies.

Qualifications

• Valid North Carolina CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Clean driving record and ability to meet DMV and school transportation requirements.
• Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and medical certification.
• Prior experience driving a school bus or commercial passenger vehicle preferred.
• Dependable, punctual, and willing to accept assignments on short notice.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school, athletic events, field trips, and other school-sponsored activities.
• Operate school buses in accordance with all federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations.
• Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any safety or maintenance concerns promptly.
• Maintain order and ensure appropriate student behavior while on the bus in accordance with school policies.
• Adhere to assigned schedules, routes, and transportation procedures.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, faculty, and staff.
• Maintain accurate transportation records as required.
• Represent Durham Academy with professionalism and care while transporting students.
