Job summary

Hastings YMCA is seeking a Preschool Support Staff member to provide on-call coverage for Preschool and Extended Care programs. You will supervise children, assist lead teachers, and help keep learning spaces safe and engaging while adhering to health and safety standards.

Ideal candidates are 18+, have childcare-related experience, CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or willing to obtain), and a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18 years old.
• Previous experience with children (care/education/camps/babysitting).
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Knowledge of child development principles.
• Interest in working with children in a group setting.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule (morning and/or afternoon).
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Commitment to the YMCA mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision of children across preschool and extended care settings.
• Assist lead teachers with classroom management, routine transitions, and activities.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for preschool and school-age children.
• Assist with the preparation, serving, and cleanup of meals and snacks.
• Follow health, safety, and allergy procedures.
• Support supervision and logistics during field trips and events.
• Communicate shift availability and classroom coverage with directors and team.
• Complete required YMCA staff training, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
• Maintain on-site coverage and adapt to changing needs.
