Job summary

SIU Medicine is seeking a Credentialed/Certified Medical Assistant to provide just-in-time coverage for clinics experiencing volume increases or last-minute call outs. The role offers flexible scheduling with 4-hour or full-day increments, at $30 per hour, and requires 1 year of MA experience along with active certification.

Typical duties include patient intake, vitals, basic procedures, and supporting physicians within a dynamic academic medicine setting.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Current/valid medical assistant certification (CMA, NCMA, CCMA, or RMA).
• One year of Medical Assistant (Credentialed/Certified) work experience.
• Pre-employment background screenings required.
• Out-of-state residents must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Maintain medical records in EHR and prepare charts for patient exams.
• Perform direct patient care tasks: greet patient, update demographics and insurance, record vitals, and assist doctors.
• Assist with procedures and instrument setup, sterilization, and patient transport.
• Handle clerical duties: maintain files, charge records, and coordinate referrals.
