Job summary

Grand Street Settlement in Brooklyn is seeking a Substitute/EHS Floater to cover classrooms and kitchen areas as needed. You will assist the Lead Teacher in planning and supervising a group of 8–20 children according to Head Start standards and DOHMH Article 47 regulations.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, experience with young children, and the ability to work with diverse families. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm or 9am–5pm, with variation by program needs.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children.
• Ability to work with children and families with special developmental, social or cultural needs.
• Ability to interpret safety regulations, policies and procedures.
• Ability to foster and maintain positive, professional relationships with staff and participants.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining a safe, sanitary environment per Health and Head Start requirements.
• Support planning and implementation of programming addressing developmental and health needs of individual children and groups.
• Work with Lead Teacher to meet children’s goals and objectives.
• Maintain confidentiality of family records and communications.
• Notify Lead Teacher of concerns about child health or behavior.
• Participate in observation of children’s health and development per program policies.
• Assist in kitchen coverage while adhering to health requirements.
• Attend trainings and meetings as assigned.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Flexible schedule to cover staff as needed.
