Job summary

Candor Consulting & Diagnostics is seeking a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to empower students who are deaf or hard of hearing to achieve academic success and equitable access. You will develop IEPs, deliver specialized instruction, and monitor progress with a collaborative team.

The role requires ASL fluency, a Texas DHH certification, and knowledge of IDEA/IEP processes. Competitive pay and flexible scheduling are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education or related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Education for Students with Hearing Impairments preferred but not required.
  • Texas Educator Certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing required.
  • Familiarity with IDEA and IEP processes is essential.
  • ASL fluency required; bilingual skills preferred.
  • CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Individualized Plans by collaborating with IEP teams to create and implement IEPs addressing communication and learning needs.
  • Deliver targeted instruction in language development, auditory skills, and social-emotional learning.
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust approaches to meet IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and families to ensure a cohesive support system.
  • Advocate for accommodations, FM systems, captioning, and visual aids to ensure equitable access.
  • Prepare students for life after school by teaching self-advocacy and use of assistive technologies for post-secondary settings.
  • Develop strategies to foster independence and self-confidence across school, home, and community.
  • Address accessibility needs and teach safety and navigation skills.

Education:A bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a closely related field is required. A master’s degree in Education for Students with Hearing Impairments or a similar area is preferred but not required.

Certification:A validTexas Educator Certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)is required. Additional certifications in related areas, such as Auditory-Verbal Therapy, are a plus but not mandatory.

Specialized Knowledge:Familiarity with special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and understanding of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process are essential.

Language Proficiency:Fluency inAmerican Sign Language (ASL)is required. Bilingual skills in additional languages are preferred but not mandatory.

Additional Requirements:CPR certification is preferred.

Your Role:

As aTeacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you will play a crucial role in empowering students who are deaf or hard of hearing to achieve academic success, foster independence, and gain equitable access to their educational environment. Your responsibilities will include:

Develop Individualized Plans:Collaborate with IEP teams to create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address the specific communication and learning needs of students with hearing impairments.

Provide Specialized Instruction:Deliver targeted instruction in areas such as language development, auditory skills, and social-emotional learning, utilizing strategies that align with each student’s unique needs.

Monitor Student Progress:Collect and analyze data to track students’ academic and developmental progress, adjusting instructional approaches as needed to meet IEP goals.

Collaborate with Teams:Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech and language pathologists, audiologists, and families to ensure a cohesive support system for students across all educational settings.

Promote Accessibility:Advocate for and implement accommodations, modifications, and assistive technologies, such as FM systems, captioning, and visual aids, to ensure equitable access to learning opportunities.

Support Transition Goals:Prepare students for life beyond school by teaching skills such as self-advocacy, effective communication, and the use of adaptive technologies for post-secondary education, vocational settings, and independent living.

Foster Independence:Develop strategies to enhance students’ independence and self-confidence in school, home, and community settings, including teaching self-advocacy and problem-solving skills.

Promote Safety:Ensure students’ safety by addressing accessibility needs and teaching essential skills for navigating their environments effectively.
