Job summary

Emporia Rehabilitation And Healthcare Center in Emporia, VA is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to provide comprehensive rehab services within a long-term care setting.

The COTA will work under an OTR, participate in patient assessments, document progress, and ensure treatment plans align with state guidelines. SNF experience is preferred and a collaborative team environment is emphasized.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited university with a BA or Associates degree in Occupational Therapy that is recognized by the AOTA.
• Holds current license and/or registration in the state (as applicable).
• SNF experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive treatment to patients under the supervision of an OTR and according to state guidelines.
• Assist OT in identifying appropriate patients and referring them to rehab accordingly.
• Document patient’s daily participation and progress on progress note in an accurate and timely fashion, and obtain the co-signature of the OTR.
• Ensure MD orders are obtained for treatments, re-certifications and discharges.
• Assist with other documentation requirements as indicated and according to state guidelines.
• Attend facility and rehab meetings when indicated by Supervisor.
• Act as a rehab delegate to the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in scheduling of patients as indicated.
• Complete billing logs and bill patients ethically and accurately for occupational therapy services rendered.
• Cover other therapists’ patient caseload during absence as necessary.
• Supervise junior COTA staff members or students as needed.
• Maintain professional relationship with co-workers, facility staff, patients and patient families.
• Provide in-service education regarding patient care or occupational therapy services to rehab staff, facility staff, hospitals and/or community as needed.
