Independently execute a range of complex scientific researchactivities in a core facility including planning and optimizingresearch, designing analysis algorithms, and providing training toresearchers.
The Center for Nanoscale Systems (CNS) at Harvard University seeksan enthusiastic, scientifically curious individual with a stronggrowth mindset to work within the Nanofabrication Group as aScientist/Engineer focused primarily on teaching and supportingresearchers with flexible and hybrid device nanofabrication andprocess development in soft matter.
CNS is an open, shared-use facility that serves all of Harvard aswell as external academic and industrial users. CNS typicallysupports more than 1,500 users annually.
Working under the supervision of the Nanofabrication FacilityDirector and the CNS leadership team, this person will assist andtrain users in soft-material fabrication tools and processes andother advanced flexible device technologies.
Responsibilities include support and maintenance of thesoft-material cleanroom, and flexible device fabrication/assemblylabs and facilities, process support including photolithography,polymer/resists coating and mixing, wet etching, chemicalprocessing, oxygen plasma cleaning, nanoparticle-related tools,rapid prototyping (laser cutting and 3D printing), and flexible/hybrid assembly tools/processes.
Day-to-day operations include teaching/training new users on tooloperation, experimental design, and data analysis/interpretation.The candidate will also perform work for remote CNS users.
Working with other nanofabrication scientists/engineers andresearch groups, this individual will support advanced applicationsfor a broad range of flexible device fabrication and hybrid processdevelopment.
Collaboration with all CNS personnel to achieve objectives andenhance service quality is expected. Detailed record keeping ofinstrument activity, experimental results, maintenance and repairlogs, and operating procedures is expected. Authoring SOPs andrelated documents for the Flexible Nanofabrication Facility.
This person will also be responsible for overseeing CNS’scompliance with Harvard and government safety laws and regulations.Their duties include coordinating with the CNS safety officer toidentify potential risks, implementing policies and procedures touphold safety regulations and monitoring their workplace foradherence to those policies and procedures.
Laboratories, cleanroom and office setting.
Must be able to work in an imaging facility, cleanroom, biological,chemical, and characterization laboratory environments.
Will work around compressed gases, cryogens, ovens, acids, bases,oxidizers, solvents, vacuum pump oils, and other chemicals. Must bevery dexterous; may be required to work on large and smallassemblies.
Ability to push, pulling, lift, repetitive motion
