Flex Officer Explanation

The Flex Officer position is crucial to our company’s operational and financial success. The flex officer provides trained, competent support by working shifts which become open due to illness, call-offs, weather, vacation, or other causes. This enables Sunstates to provide continual, uninterrupted service to our customers, while also protecting the health and work balance of our personnel.

Scheduling Expectations

The scheduling parameters and expectations for a Flex Officer are different from those of an employee assigned to a fixed post. As a Flex officer:

  • You will be trained at various posts and/or facilities based on operational need. While you may work at a specific post or location for several weeks due to need, this will not be a permanent assignment.
  • Your schedule (shifts, days off, hours per week, etc.) will vary based on operational need.
  • You will be assigned to, or offered the opportunity to accept, shifts as they become available due to staffing needs.
  • Some shifts will be scheduled in advance and posted with the week’s schedule. Sometimes you will be called with short notice to cover for someone unable to work their shift.
  • You are expected to work any shift for which you are scheduled in advance within your availability. If you know you will be unavailable on an upcoming date or time, you must communicate this with your supervisor.

For short-notice call-ins, you are expected to work at least 80% of the shifts for which you are called. Refusing more than 20% of shifts may negatively impact your employment.

A Security Officer may perform duties as specified by Post Orders and SOPs. The officer should become knowledgeable of these directives to act quickly and efficiently.

Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.
