Job summary

Duke Energy announces a Vehicle Maintenance Technician I role. The position focuses on preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs for light and medium duty vehicles and equipment at company facilities.

The role requires an auto/diesel/heavy equipment mechanics background or related experience, and a Class A CDL within 6 months. Onsite work involves safety-focused tasks, lifting, and occasional travel (15–25%).

Qualifications

  • Must have an Associate's degree or certificate in auto, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanics or at least one year of related work experience.
  • Must successfully obtain and maintain a Class A CDL license within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must be able to stand and walk on concrete surface for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and/or push at least 100 lbs. several times per shift.
  • Travel 15-25% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Federal DOT inspections.
  • Assist on dielectric test inspections.
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs on light and medium vehicles, (gas & diesel) forklifts, trailers, and powered equipment.
  • Maintain the appropriate level of technical competence required to diagnose and repair vehicles/equipment.
  • Perform hydraulic brake systems and component repairs.
  • Assist with hydraulic component repairs.
  • Assist with air brake system inspections and repairs.
  • Assist higher classification of technicians with diagnostics and repairs on all vehicles/equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair basic electric system components, cranking, lighting, charging and assist with basic A/C systems and component repairs.
  • Complete all training requirements for Vehicle Maintenance Technician I in the timeframe established by the Company.
