Job Description

The Fleet Utility Worker is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Kirby’s barge fleet, including land-based and floating facilities along the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The role involves working across all Kirby fleet locations in the region, using a company vehicle to service these sites, and ensuring operational readiness through hands-on tasks in a marine environment.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain land-based and floating facilities across all Kirby fleet locations between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
  2. Coordinate fleet and facility services, including groundskeeping and mooring equipment maintenance.
  3. Use a company vehicle to service locations in the Louisiana River area.
  4. Purchase supplies for daily operations and manage inventory of emergency and hurricane response equipment.
  5. Manage waste facilities (trash, oil, etc.) daily.
  6. Complete projects assigned by Fleet Maintenance management, including repairs.
  7. Operate small equipment (lawn mowers, tractors, ATVs) for facility maintenance.
  8. Work occasional weekends as needed.
Required Job Skills
  1. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  2. TWIC Card.
  3. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  4. Basic computer skills.
  5. Light carpentry and general repair skills.
  6. Hands-on attitude and ability to work in a marine environment.
  7. Experience in marine or construction fields is preferred but not required.
  8. Welding experience is a plus.
Working Conditions

Hours are from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Must adapt to changing schedules, weather conditions, and work around water.

Qualifications
