Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. is seeking a Fleet Trailer Refrigeration Mechanic in South Gate, CA. The role performs standard maintenance, service, and repair on refrigerated trailers, dry vans, and related equipment under routine supervision.

May require outdoor work, variable shifts including nights and weekends, and overtime. Full-time position in Maintenance Department. The technician will troubleshoot, follow safety procedures, and ensure compliance with company specs and SRT/warranty

Qualifications

• 18 years of age with 1-2 years in semi-trailer maintenance or equivalent.
• Willingness to work outdoors or across multiple shifts including nights/weekends.
• EPA 608 certification Tech 2.
• At least 1 year of experience in DOT/FHWA inspections and air brakes.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate standard preventive maintenance and part replacement on trailers and equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair trailer equipment; work independently as needed.
• Participate in OE training for repairs; follow shop safety procedures.
• Maintain professional communication with JB Hunt personnel and customers.
• Perform standard repairs to specifications and complete work orders.

Job Title: Fleet Trailer Refrigeration Mechanic

Job Summary: Under routine supervision, this position is responsible for performing standard level maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt specialized trailers/containers (dry van, refrigerated, and temperature controlled), chassis, and other equipment. Technicians must be able to troubleshoot issues, complete all fleet maintenance processes, and ensure that units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times. This position has the possibility to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends in addition to overtime; it requires full-time attendance.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate standard knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and more difficult repairs as they pertain to specialized trailer maintenance, air brake systems, and FHWA Inspections
• Troubleshoot and repair specialized trailer equipment; work independently and seek assistance as needed
• Participate in Original Equipment Manufacturing training for OE repairs Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures
• Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers at all times
• Accurately perform standard level repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications, complete work orders, and demonstrate understanding of company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines
• Perform standard preventive maintenance tasks to include, but not limited to, tire replacements/flat repairs, brake adjustments/services/replacements, electrical diagnostics, basic structural repairs on trailer chassis, sub-frames, etc.
• Understand and demonstrate the standard use of a cutting torch and welding equipment; perform minor repairs on chassis, frames, brackets, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• 18 years of age with 1-2 years of experience in Semi-Trailer maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent.
• Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences:
• Willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed
• EPA section 608 certification Tech 2
• At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 1-2 years of experience in Semi-Trailer maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent.
• Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums
• Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds)
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Ability to read documents and/or information in English
• Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of ABS systems
• Proficient computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability to use a logical approach to derive a specific conclusion from general ideas
• Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively
• Knowledge of approaches and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving operations or process problems
• Ability to work with minimal direction
• Possess standard welding, cutting, and brazing skills

The expected starting pay range for this position is between

$28.27 - $39.75

Compensation

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company's bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
