Job summary

The City of San Diego is seeking an Assistant Fleet Technician to maintain and repair a range of motive, industrial, and construction equipment. Duties include lubrication, fueling, tire work, minor repairs, battery service, and preventive maintenance; you may drive a fuel truck and document service records.

Candidates should meet one of several education/experience paths (AS degree + 1 year, 600 hours program + 1 year, or 2 years motive service).

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology or Auto Mechanics AND one year of motive service experience.
• 600 hours Automotive Service Training Program AND one year of motive service experience.
• Two years of motive service experience.

Responsibilities

• Lubricate, fuel, and service motive, industrial, and construction equipment.
• Perform minor repairs, part replacements, and adjustments.
• Inspect, repair, and replace tires; service batteries; perform preventive maintenance.
• Drive and operate a fuel truck; maintain service records; perform UST/Hazmat inspections.
• Prepare basic reports and stay current with automotive technology enhancements.
