Job summary

Empire Southwest is seeking an experienced heavy‑duty fleet technician to service and repair medium and heavy‑duty trucks in a shop setting. You’ll diagnose electrical, powertrain, hydraulic, and body systems using OEM tools and schematics, and perform preventative maintenance while ensuring safety and quality.

Prior CAT and Cummins familiarity is a plus. You must have 6+ months of related experience, English proficiency, a valid driver’s license, and own your own tools.

Qualifications

  • Six months of related experience in a similar role.
  • Must read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to pass a skills assessment (eTRAIN test).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Own and maintain required personal tools.
  • Preferred: five years fleet truck repair experience.
  • Caterpillar work experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Repair, recondition and maintain equipment and components.
  • Prepare service reports and discuss progress with clients.
  • Plan and control cost of repair jobs.
  • Work safely and comply with company policies and standards.

EXPERIENCE:
Required:
  • At least six months of related experience in a similar role and environment.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.
  • Keep safety as a priority in the work environment.
  • Ability to successfully complete a skills assessment. (eTRAIN test)
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent client service skills.

Strongly Preferred:
  • At least five years fleet truck repair technician experience, preferably in a dealership environment.
  • Caterpillar work experience.

If offered employment, the specific rate of pay and position grade will be determined based on applicable differentials and the candidate’s level of experience and skill.

JOB DETAILS:
  • Shift 2nd/Swing Shift
  • Location On-Site
  • Schedule Standard work schedule to be provided by leader.
  • Salary Range $24.36 - $34.84 Per Hour + $5 Per Hour 2nd Shift Differential
JOB SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for trouble‑shooting, repair, recondition, and Service of Empire's medium and heavy‑duty fleet. This Includes medium and heavy‑duty service trucks, heavy haul trucks freight trucks and lube trucks. You will be performing preventative maintenance, trouble‑shooting and repairing truck systems, electrical, powertrain, drive train, hydraulic, body systems, cranes and compressors in a shop environment. You must be able to identify and evaluate root cause failures using electronic tools, schematics and other trouble shooting methods. Experience with Cummins px9 isx15, 6.7 power stroke. Duramax engines is recommended as well as operating OEM diagnostic equipment such as IDS FDRS, and Cummins Insite.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Maintain good client relations and support for corporate marketing objectives.
  • Repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
  • Prepare service reports.
  • Plan and control cost of repair jobs.
  • Maintain company equipment – keep in good clean orderly condition.
  • Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Own and maintain required personal tools.
  • Learn and use Empire, Caterpillar and allied product procedures and systems.
  • Maintain current MSHA card if work area requires.
  • Provide on-the-job training to technicians and helpers as assigned.
  • Make warranty recommendations.
  • Communicate with proper individuals to clarify instructions or discuss scope or progress of job.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Travel to remote locations as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work within and promote corporate values.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Communicate verbally and in writing, information, instructions, and explanations to associates, clients and management regarding vehicle/component/equipment conditions, problems, recommendations, and repair processes.
  • Basic computer and internet knowledge required, as well as knowledge in operating scanning/diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation.
  • Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhere to company policy.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of CAT machine components and systems.
  • Must have acceptable attendance to meet all company standards and requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Minimum of 6 months related experience.
  • Completion of eTRAIN test evaluation.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
