Position Details

Salary: $20.32 - $32.50 Hourly

Closing Date: 5/14/2025

This position is responsible for the mechanical repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from standard senior high school or GED recognized by USDE or CHEA
  • Two (2) years recent experience as a mechanic (heavy equipment, trucks, or a combination)
  • One (1) year recent experience in diesel and gasoline engine maintenance and repair
Conditions of Employment
  • Complete and accept Certification of Understanding and CDL Condition forms
  • Must furnish own hand tools
  • Participation in after-hour standby duty including holidays and weekends
  • Regular and acceptable attendance
  • Availability to work at least 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week, with possible overtime
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; must obtain Class A CDL within 120 days
  • Ability to report within 30 minutes in emergency or standby situations (within 6 months)
  • Background checks and drug/alcohol testing required
  • Meet physical standards including drug testing
Application and Examination Process

Applicants will be evaluated based on training and experience (60%) and a written exam (40%). The exam is scheduled for May 28, 2025. Self-scheduling is required.

Content areas include engine systems, heating/cooling, electrical, fuel systems, wheels/brakes, tools, and safety practices. The exam lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes.
