The City of Wentzville is seeking candidates interested in joining our Public Works, Fleet team. Wentzville is one of the fastest-growing communities in the state. Come grow with us!

Under direct supervision, the Fleet Technician performs entry-level automotive work, maintaining and repairing City automotive, maintenance and construction equipment.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide respectful, professional, positive service in all interactions between co-workers, internal external customers, community members, and the public at large.
  • Maintain a positive and productive environment, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, goals and objectives of the City, Department and Division.
  • Performs general and routine maintenance tasks on automotive, maintenance and construction equipment
  • Repairs and replaces tires.
  • Fabricates various parts.
  • Transports vehicles and parts.
  • Keeps records of repairs, conditions and mileage of vehicles and equipment
  • Responds to remote service calls
  • Removes, disposes, or recycles waste products.
  • Operates a variety of motorized, power, and hand-powered machines and equipment.
  • Perform Winter Storm operations on a 24-hour call basis. Repair trucks and equipment, plow snow and spread salt as needed.
  • Mandatory participation in on-call rotation with emergency and urgent condition response time of 30 minutes or less.
  • Clean and maintain the shop area, sweeping, hauling debris and trash.
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow all departmental and organizational processes, policies, and procedures required to meet operational targets.
  • Provide updates as required on task progress.

Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

  • Prior relevant experience in the fleet repair industry or related field required.
  • Certifications are preferred, or the ability to obtain them within 180 days of employment is required.
  • Class A CDL with air brake endorsement
  • Forklift Operator
  • Chemical Spill Response
  • One year of heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
  • ASE certification preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

  • Ability to work under established processes and solve problems within defined parameters. Basic knowledge in the use of general computer programs and applications, including email and mobile apps
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to safely drive vehicles used to transport materials, tools, and equipment
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty. Job requires being reliable, responsible and dependable.
