Responsibilities

  • Maintain city vehicles and equipment, performing preventive maintenance and basic repairs.
  • Schedule, inspect, and perform routine maintenance on a variety of vehicles and heavy/light equipment.
  • Replace oil, air, fluids, filters, belts, spark plugs and related items; inspect tires and balance as needed.
  • Clean, test, and replace batteries; inspect belts/hoses and update work orders.
  • Perform routine maintenance and clerical duties; maintain maintenance records and notify departments of service needs.

Job description

This position is responsible for the mechanical upkeep, repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.

  • Assists withscheduling, inspecting and performing basic preventive maintenance procedures on a variety of vehicles, heavy and/or light equipment.
  • Replaces oil, air, fluids, coolants, filters, belts, spark plugs and other related items.
  • Checks condition of tires. Inflates, replaces and balances tires, as necessary.
  • Cleans, tests and replaces vehicle batteries; inspects belts and hoses and replaces, as necessary; writes up and/or receives work orders.
  • Performs routine maintenance on light and heavy-duty vehicles equipment.
  • Washes and vacuums vehicles; pick-ups and delivers vehicles to location of customer.
  • Performs routine clerical duties.
  • Maintains and updates a variety of reports, files and records; enters, reviews and maintains individual maintenance records; and notifies departments of scheduled service requirements.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of department safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of file and records management.
  • Knowledge of inventory control.
  • Skill in working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, scanner, fax machine and copier
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Fleet Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include manufacturer maintenance manuals, work safety guidelines, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
  • The work consists of related equipment maintenance duties. The variety of equipment to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the work.
  • The purpose of this position is to maintain city vehicles and equipment. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of safe and well-maintained vehicles for a variety of city operations.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, vendors, contractors, and other city employees.
  • Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in a garage, stockroom, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain required Tool List within six (6) months of employment.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the State of Wyoming.
