CITY OF KILLEEN POSITION DESCRIPTION
Performs semi-skilled, skilled, technical, and administrative work in maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the City of Killeen.
The employee will have the responsibility of:
- Safely operating a Forklift and/or other lifting devices
- Performing diagnostic, preventive maintaining and repairing on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment. to include tune-ups, overhauling engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, brakes, drive trains, generators, computer-controlled fuel injection and emission related equipment, carburetors, air conditioning, electrical, cooling, suspension, pumps, hydraulic systems, and steering
- Scheduled and unscheduled repairs and ensuring compliance with all industry standards
- Handling new vehicle check-ins, maintaining shop equipment, and ensuring a safe and clean work environment
- Operating automotive and general shop equipment to include brake lathes, gas and arc welding equipment, engine analyzers, tire equipment, scanners, and computers; complies with and helps enforce shop safety rules
- Providing road call assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate. Entersworkorderupdatesandprogressinacomputer-basedmaintenanceprogram; recordings of maintenance and repair work, including parts used and hours worked
- Maintainingthesecurityofissuedcityownedequipment.(e.g.,tools,toolbox,safety equipment)
The work environment will require the employee to:
- Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Highschooldiplomaorequivalent; and
- One(1)yearofspecializedtrainingfromanaccreditedinstitute; or
- Three(3)yearsrelated experience
Special Requirements:
- Musthaveavaliddriver’slicensebydateof hire
- Must obtain an air conditioning certification, state Motor Vehicle Inspector’s (MVI) certification andTexasStateCDLLicensewithin one(1)year,fundedbytheCity
- Uponcompletionofthesix (6)monthprobationaryperiod,employeewillberequiredto be “on-call” for after-hours emergencies approximately one week per quarter.
- Certificationinvehiclemaintenance preferred
