Description

The Heritage Project includes 16 power generation facilities across PA, NJ, and OH. These sites feature a variety of equipment, such as combined-cycle units, dual-fuel turbines, and subcritical boilers. The project supports a mix of fuel sources, including natural gas, oil, and gas-fired systems, with facilities like the Gilbert Generating Station and Shawville Units playing key roles.

Opportunity Summary

The Fleet Services Engineer provides engineering and technical support across the Heritage Fleet to improve plant safety, reliability, efficiency, and performance. This position serves as a technical resource to plant management and personnel, analyzes equipment and performance issues, supports reliability initiatives, and manages capital and plant improvement projects.

This is a remote, home-based position when not traveling to support fleet assets. Approximately 35% travel is required to Heritage facilities across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio for onsite engineering, troubleshooting, operational, and project support.

Your scope of responsibility as Fleet Services Engineer supporting the Heritage Fleet includes the following primary functions:

• Serve as a technical resource to plant management and personnel, supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment and systems.
• Collaborate with plant management and project stakeholders on operational, maintenance, and reliability strategies to improve equipment performance and long-term plant reliability.
• Monitor and analyze combustion turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, boilers, balance-of-plant systems, and fleet performance to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Evaluate heat rate, efficiency, availability, capacity, and other performance data and recommend operational or technical improvements.
• Perform root cause analyses of equipment failures and develop corrective actions and long-term reliability solutions.
• Evaluate plant systems and designs and develop cost-effective engineering solutions to improve reliability, performance, and operating costs.
• Troubleshoot technical and operational issues across multiple facilities and provide engineering recommendations to support timely resolution.
• Serve as Project Manager for capital, reliability, and plant improvement projects, including developing scopes of work, contracts, schedules, budgets, and technical documentation.
• Manage assigned projects to established budgets, schedules, technical requirements, and contractual commitments while coordinating with plant personnel, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain engineering drawings, procedures, technical documentation, and plant records to ensure information remains current and accurate.
• Prepare technical and performance reports for plant owners, utilities, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Travel approximately 35% to Heritage facilities across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio to provide onsite engineering, troubleshooting, project, and operational support.
• Support NAES Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs and perform additional duties as assigned to support the Heritage Project and Fleet Engineering Department.

Working Relationships

The Fleet Services Engineer reports to the Client Services Manager and works closely with plant management, operations, maintenance, and other plant personnel across the Heritage Fleet on matters related to client needs, plant operations, engineering support, projects, and fleet performance.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in a home office or plant office environment and involves extensive computer use, prolonged periods of sitting, and frequent virtual communication with internal teams and external stakeholders. When working remotely, a reliable internet connection and a quiet, dedicated workspace are essential for effective performance.

While not working from home, the position operates in a power plant environment. Physical requirements include the ability to reach, climb, walk, and stoop throughout the workday, as well as stand for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, and routinely lift up to 50 pounds.

Protective equipment, such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear, must be worn for certain duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Fleet Services Engineer typically works a Monday through Friday day shift schedule, with extended hours, weekends, holidays, or schedule flexibility required as needed to support outages, projects, equipment issues, and other plant or business needs.

Approximately 35% travel is required to Heritage facilities across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio. Additional travel may occasionally be required for owner, management, user group, vendor, or other business meetings and events.

Compensation

This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $100,000 to $120,000 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Engineering Expertise & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis.
• Power generation, industrial operations, maintenance, or engineering experience preferred, with knowledge of combustion turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, boilers, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including experience performing root cause analyses and developing corrective and preventive actions to improve plant performance and reliability.
• Experience supporting or managing capital, reliability, or plant improvement projects, including schedules, budgets, and technical requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Project, for technical analysis, reporting, and project documentation.
• Experience with performance monitoring and plant data systems such as EtaPro or OSI PI is highly desirable; familiarity with programming or data-processing tools such as Python, VBA, or HTML is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple facilities and communicate technical information effectively to varied audiences.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement in plant operations and engineering activities.
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 35% to power generation facilities across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio to support projects, outages, troubleshooting, and other plant needs.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

We are seeking a Plant Engineer with a passion for excellence in plant operations and maintenance, a work history demonstrating progressively increasing responsibilities, and prior experience in a power plant environment.

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required, with a preference for Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. An educational background with concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety, is highly desirable. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience in power plant operations, maintenance, or engineering support is preferred, particularly within natural gas, oil-fired, or combined-cycle facilities.

Demonstrated ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve technical and operational issues affecting plant performance across multiple sites.

Experience conducting root cause analyses, developing corrective actions, and implementing long-term reliability improvements.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Project, with the ability to develop and maintain technical reports, data analyses, and project documentation.

Experience using performance monitoring and data analysis platforms, such as EtaPro and/or OSI PI, is highly desirable.
