FLEET SERVICE TECHNICIAN I, II

- The current vacancy is at Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility
- The list of eligible candidates resulting from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that may occur at Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility, Calabasas Landfill or Scholl Canyon Landfill (Glendale)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks related to vehicles, heavy equipment, and support equipment (Fleet Assets).
JOB SUMMARY
The major job responsibilities are listed below. For more detailed information, please review the job description.
- Refuel, service, and maintain fleet assets
- Change fluids, lubricants, and filters
- Adjust tracks, belts, brakes, and chains
- Remove and install ground engaging tools
- Remove and install tires
- Provide roadside service to fleet vehicles
- Perform basic repair tasks on fleet assets
- Install decals
- Assist mechanics in technical diagnostic and repair work
- Maintain an inventory of servicing supplies and equipment parts
- Create work orders and update work order records in a computerized maintenance management system
- Schedule and coordinate major services
- Drive off-site to perform various tasks including picking up parts
Applicants must possess all of the following
- A valid California Class C driver license; AND
For FLEET SERVICE TECHNICIAN I
- One (1) year of progressively responsible experience servicing and maintaining a variety of vehicles or heavy equipment; OR completion of one (1) year of a two-year trade school in diesel mechanic technology, heavy equipment technology, or a closely related program may be considered in lieu of the required experience.
For FLEET SERVICE TECHNICIAN II
- One (1) year working as an Fleet Service Technician I for the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County.
For BOTH LEVELS

Knowledge of
- Service and maintenance requirements of a variety of construction and utility equipment
- Hazards and safe work practices related to the work environment
- Functions and operating requirements of equipment
- Service and maintenance requirements of a variety of vehicular and heavy equipment tires and wheels
Ability to
- Understand and implement written servicing instructions
- Operate a variety of construction and utility equipment
- Service heavy equipment
- Track oil and fuel use
SELECTION PROCESS
- All applications will be reviewed to determine if the conditions and qualifications for testing are met.
- The selection process will consist of a written test weighted at 30% and an interview weighted at 70%.
- Candidates must receive a qualifying score on each selection component to move forward in the selection process.
- The written test is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026.
- The interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of October 19, 2026.
NOTE: The individual(s) recommended for hire must undergo a reference check, background check, DMV report, pre-employment physical and drug test.
