Responsibilities

• Promote safety policies and provide guidance to delivery/OTR personnel.
• Inspect daily VIRs and ensure a VIR is completed for each truck.
• Monitor logs and correct entries; observe driving behavior and report.
• Investigate accidents on scene with the Accident Investigator and FMCSA procedures.
• Coordinate training with the NON-CDL trainer.
• All training provided by AFW.

Job Overview

The Fleet Safety Coordinator will execute and implement the fleet safety program to include proactive vehicle safety measures, accident prevention, regulatory compliance, accident investigation, Federal Motor Carrier Administration regulation counseling, and development of safety and training materials and programs at the direction of the Fleet Safety Department. The Fleet Safety Coordinator will be able to travel to accident scenes to conduct an accident investigation.

Job Responsibilities & Duties

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

• Commitment to AFW’s safety policies and procedures and ability to promote awareness.
• Available to all delivery/OTR Personnel who may have questions or concerns.
• Inspects daily VIR’s and ensures a VIR is completed for each truck daily by collecting them at the end of each route.
• Monitor Delivery Dept. log books for employees at their location and ensure any log corrections are made when needed.
• Knowledge and experience using appropriate methods to assess driver skills.
• Periodically follow Delivery or OTR trucks on a rotating basis to monitor and complete observation reports about an employee’s driving behavior, speeds, turn signal usage, courteous driving, intelligent parking locations, spotter usage, etc.
• Appraises employee performance, communicates goals and expectations, provide honest feedback and coaches team members.
• Able to understand and communicate FMCSA regulations.
• Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines and effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Communicates, coordinates, and develops teamwork with the AFW management team.
• Review driver’s infringements arrange re‑training when necessary.
• Ensures compliance and communication of applicable state and federal regulations.
• Coordinate with the NON‑CDL trainer to schedule necessary training of new employees or further necessary training of an existing employee.
• Randomly pre‑trip vehicles to ensure FMCSA compliance.
• Stay on top of regional weather conditions and relay the information to the teams.
• Immediately proceed to an accident scene when practical to gather information, investigate, take pictures, and coordinate with the Accident Investigator regarding drug and alcohol testing, post‑accident procedures, etc.
• Other duties to be assigned/directed by supervisor.
• All training will be provided by AFW.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Job Requirements

• Previous experience as a Fleet Safety Coordinator/related job or experience working in a deliveries department preferred.
• Positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
• Must possess great time management and organizational skills.
• Coordinate and work effectively with multiple departments to continuously improve processes, maximize efficiency and exceed customer service expectations.
• Ability to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
• Ability to have a flexible schedule and work all shifts, holidays, and weekends.
• Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
• Capacity to effectively work independently of direct supervision.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED is preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience accepted in lieu of diploma.

Compensation

Pay Rate: Starting at $20/hour and up - dependent on experience

Pay Grade C: $17.71-32.89

Physical Requirements

• Capacity to maneuver in confined and at times congested areas.
• Capability to stand, walk, stoop, & bend for 8 hours or more daily.
• Lifting, gripping, bending, kneeling, stooping, and moving merchandise 8 hours or more daily.
• Continuous use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, legs, and back.
• Ability to lift, lower, move, carry, push and pull all sizes of merchandise up to 50 lbs. and the skill to handle/manipulate merchandise up to 100 lbs. frequently.
• Able to work in variable environments with different lighting, loud exterior noise, and flooring.
