Job summary

School City of Hobart is seeking a Mechanic for the Service Center to perform skilled maintenance on school buses, trucks, and district vehicles. Immediate availability with a focus on diagnostics and safe operation.

You will work in a busy shop, using diagnostics tools and maintaining detailed records. The role requires 3–5 years of relevant maintenance experience, a valid Indiana driver’s license, and the ability to obtain CDL endorsements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years of maintenance/repair of gasoline and diesel vehicles.
• Valid Indiana driver's license; ability to obtain Indiana CDL with endorsements (air brake, school bus, passenger).
• Ability to maintain CDL, endorsements, physical examination, drug testing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical, electrical, diagnostic, preventive maintenance and repair work on buses, trucks, and district vehicles.
• Inspect pupil transportation vehicles for Indiana state requirements and safety expectations.
• Maintain and check vehicle safety systems and related equipment.
• Use diagnostic tools, software, manuals to identify and resolve issues.
• Maintain repair, inspection, maintenance, parts, service, and compliance records.
• Organize shop workflow and support other mechanics or staff.
• Operate district vehicles as needed and licensed.
• Assist with snow removal and weather response duties.
• Maintain clean and safe shop areas and equipment.
