Job summary

US Foods is seeking a seasoned heavy-duty diesel mechanic in New Jersey to maintain and repair fleet equipment. The role includes evenings shifts (Sunday-Thursday), with a starting pay of $35.90 per hour and potential increase after 90 days.

You will perform preventive maintenance, document repairs, and handle road service as needed. Required are 5 years of hands-on diesel experience, tools, EPA/OSHA compliance, a valid driver's license, and proficiency with fleet software.

Sunday - Thursday Evenings to Start, New Shift Bids Every 6 Months

Pay starts at $35.90 and rises after 90 days

Basic Purpose:

To provide a safe and reliable fleet by performing preventative maintenance and proper repairs on all fleet equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform preventative maintenance within company standards.
  • Complete documentation of all repair orders, PM list and parts accountability.
  • Handle road service calls; perform road rescue/transport equipment as needed.
  • Keep track of assigned repairs by logging in and out of the software system.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with workplace safety rules and regulations and government guidelines.
  • Maintain inventory and proper recordkeeping.
  • Backup to other maintenance shop personnel.
  • Willingness and capacity to assume increasedresponsibility and Certifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have 5 years of verifiable hands‑on experience as a heavy‑duty commercial diesel mechanic.
  • Diagnostic and troubleshooting ability using fleet maintenance software.
  • Successfully demonstrated independent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Must furnish own personal hand tools.
  • Ability to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations pertaining to the shop and fleet.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and service manuals.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to communicate with co‑workers and drivers with demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
  • Computer and software experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • JPRO software experience.
  • Welding ability
  • Knowledge with electrical schematics
  • Basic Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • Leadership experience or qualifications
  • Valid Class A CDL license and DOT certification
  • EPA 608 (Type 2 or Universal) certification

1 (Push/Pull: Hand truck, gate, straps, metal ramp, truck door, dolly, boxes, truck gear shift)

2 (Climb/Balance: In/Out Truck/Trailer to cab. On/Off ramp to ground level and side doorsteps and Platform of trailer. Stairs)

3 (Grasp Objects: Hand truck, boxes, cartons, steering wheel)

4 (Manipulate Objects: Boxes, dolly, metal truck ramp, hand truck, paperwork, truck gate, straps)

5 (Manual Dexterity: Typing, use of office machines such as copiers, printers)

Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law (for example: state minimum wage thresholds). The expected base rate for this role is between $35.90 and $39.90. This role may also receive overtime compensation where applicable.
