Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a skilled fleet diesel mechanic to inspect, repair, and diagnose trucks, trailers and yard tractors, ensuring compliance with federal standards across the fleet.

You will perform electrical, braking, HVAC, engine and sensor work, complete preventive maintenance, and support drivers with outstanding issues to enhance safety and reliability. The role requires 2+ years of diesel maintenance experience and familiarity with trailer maintenance software.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Diesel Maintenance Repair experience.
• Experience with air brake, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• FMCSA standards knowledge.
• Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions.
• Effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in inspection, repair and diagnosis of diesel engines, powertrain, brakes and electrical systems.
• Perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance and complete vehicle diagnosis.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tractor and trailer equipment and complete repair orders.
• Maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles including tractors and trailers.
• Abide by all company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
• Assist drivers with addressing outstanding vehicle issues.
• Conduct DOT inspections and compliancy.

Job Details General Summary: Ensures all trucks, trailers and yard tractors are in working order and are compliant to federal standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Demonstrate gaining proficiency in the inspection, repair and diagnosis of - with some assistance: diesel engines, power train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, wheel

ends. Electrical systems including starters, alternators and lights. HVAC systems. Steering systems. Electronics to include ECM's, ECU's, sensors etc. Engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan clutches, cooling system etc. Brake systems including ABS & air disk brakes. Suspension systems (spring and air) including tire issues, and after treatment devices such as DPF and DOC

• Perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance and complete vehicle diagnosis
• Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on tractor and trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
• Perform maintenance repairs as required to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, lift-gates, and any company-owned equipment.
• Abide by all Company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
• Assist drivers with addressing outstanding vehicle issues.
• Maintains repairs for Class A trucks, trailers and yard tractors.
• Safely operates gauges, forklifts, shunt truck, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.
• Performs DOT inspections and compliancy.

Job Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and ABILITIES

• Broad understanding of fleet maintenance policies, FMCSA standards and industry practices.
• Ability to work unsupervised, make decisions as needed
• Effective communicator and team player
• Heavy diesel truck and trailer mechanic skills WORK EXPERIENCE
• 2+ years of Diesel Maintenance Repair experience
• Experienced using trailer maintenance software preferred
• Experience working with air brake, hydraulic and electrical systems.

Working Conditions

• Conducts some repairs in odd positions and/or confined or close spaces
• Work is performed under changing climatic conditions of extreme heat and cold
• Walking long distances; sitting or standing for long periods of timeBending, stooping, squatting, or kneeling on a repetitious basis
