Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a diesel maintenance technician to ensure trucks, trailers and yard tractors operate safely and in compliance with federal standards. You will diagnose and repair diesel engines, powertrains and electrical systems while performing preventive maintenance and maintaining repair orders.

The role requires independent work, strong communication and the ability to work with drivers to address issues. Expect a fast-paced shop environment within our fleet operations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Diesel Maintenance Repair experience.
• Broad understanding of fleet maintenance policies and FMCSA standards.
• Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions as needed.
• Effective communicator and team player.
• Experience with air brake, hydraulic and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in inspection, repair and diagnosis of diesel engines and powertrain components with some assistance.
• Perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance and complete vehicle diagnosis.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on tractor and trailer equipment and complete repair orders.
• Perform maintenance repairs to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles.
• Abide by company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
• Assist drivers with addressing outstanding vehicle issues and maintain repairs for Class A trucks, trailers and yard tractors.
• Safely operate gauges, ladders and common shop tools; conduct DOT inspections and compliance.

Job Details General Summary:

Ensures all trucks, trailers and yard tractors are in working order and are compliant to federal standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Demonstrate gaining proficiency in the inspection, repair and diagnosis of - with some assistance: diesel engines, power train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, wheel

ends.

Electrical systems including starters, alternators and lights. HVAC systems. Steering systems. Electronics to include ECM's, ECU's, sensors etc. Engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan clutches, cooling system etc. Brake systems including ABS & air disk brakes. Suspension systems (spring and air) including tire issues, and after treatment devices such as DPF and DOC

• Perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance and complete vehicle diagnosis


• Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on tractor and trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.


• Perform maintenance repairs as required to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, lift-gates, and any company-owned equipment.


• Abide by all Company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.


• Assist drivers with addressing outstanding vehicle issues.


• Maintains repairs for Class A trucks, trailers and yard tractors.


• Safely operates gauges, forklifts, shunt truck, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.


• Performs DOT inspections and compliancy.

Job Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Broad understanding of fleet maintenance policies, FMCSA standards and industry practices.


• Ability to work unsupervised, make decisions as needed


• Effective communicator and team player


• Heavy diesel truck and trailer mechanic skills WORK EXPERIENCE


• 2+ years of Diesel Maintenance Repair experience


• Experienced using trailer maintenance software preferred


• Experience working with air brake, hydraulic and electrical systems.

Working Conditions

• Conducts some repairs in odd positions and/or confined or close spaces


• Work is performed under changing climatic conditions of extreme heat and cold


• Walking long distances; sitting or standing for long periods of time


• Bending, stooping, squatting, or kneeling on a repetitious basis


• Fast-paced environment
