Job summary

City of Greenbelt, Maryland seeks a skilled mechanic to diagnose, maintain and repair vehicles and heavy equipment, including computerized systems. Under general supervision, you will manage preventive maintenance, coordinate with vendors, and assist with vehicle purchases.

The role involves negotiating with suppliers, preparing maintenance budgets, and ensuring fleet readiness. ASE certifications and Maryland CDL are preferred, with opportunities for advancement within the municipal fleet.

Qualifications

• High school or GED with mechanic training; related experience ok.
• ASE certs in four areas preferred.
• CDL and state inspection credentials are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses problems and determines repairs for vehicles and equipment.
• Maintains, repairs, and overhauls engines, transmissions, brakes and electrical systems.
• Inspects and repairs vehicle electrical systems and components.
• Develops preventive maintenance plans and schedules work.
• Negotiates with vendors and oversees external services.
• Prepares and maintains budgets for maintenance and repairs.
• Orders parts and maintains stock for fleet readiness.
